During the 2018 Back to School months, Degrees will be focused with helping teachers throughout Essex county. Purchasing school supplies, helping decorate their classrooms, and donating books to schools are just a few, simple steps in helping out. Degrees has already begun helping teachers this year and has been greeted with positive feedback.
"Nearly 94% of all teachers spend $500 of their own money each year on school supplies. That’s scary when you think about it. These people are in the schools to teach our children and shouldn’t be burdened with having to purchase their own supplies. It’s kind of outrageous (and understandable in today’s economy) that schools don’t supply these types of resources." said co-founder PJ Solomon. “By giving the teachers a little financial relief in the schools, we felt would help offset their other bills and expenses outside of their classrooms. They’ve made a commitment to helping our kids. We think we can at least make a commitment to helping them”.
“The response has been awesome,” says co-founder Chris Buchanan. “We’re really excited to launch our Non-Profit, The Slick Degrees Foundation. My Grandpa used to tell me, ‘you can always do better’ and that’s been our mantra at Slick. The way a business operates is changing and we believe that being profitable and doing good are not mutually exclusive,” Buchanan went on to say.
“We’re just at the beginning of where we want to go with this thing,” Solomon added, “we’ve got some pretty great things lined up for this season.”
